Lover of the Least , Vol 9

Not Seeing the “Least”
He who gives to the poor will never want,
But he who shuts his eyes [from their need] will have many curses. Proverbs 28:27 Amplified
Dear Friends:
Do you see the poor? I often miss them…… in my town and neighborhood, at the grocery store or convenience store, on the street or bus stop, even at a church building or a prayer meeting. It is easier to live in my own little world and compartmentalize my life, my needs, my goals, my opportunities, my selfishness at the expense of the poor and suffering. I confess I have intentionally “shut my eyes” to the reality of real world poverty, especially in Third World countries where it is quite overwhelming.
A Feeling of Helplessness
Where do I start? Who do I start with? How do I make a difference? What impact will I have with limited resources and a small voice? Some questions I ask almost daily. Have you ever felt that way? Then comes the guilt, briefly, then compartmentalize what I have seen and quickly shut my eyes and mind to it.
Joy Unspeakable …. With Your Eyes Wide Open
But friends, there is no joy in shutting your eyes! There is no joy in ignoring reality and the poor around us. When you give, the writer of Proverbs says, “you will never want”. What does this mean? I say open your eyes, give it a try and lets see!!
