Gift Of Education (GOE)
The Gift of Education (GOE) is a Burmese-led nonprofit based in Washington, D.C., dedicated to providing online English education to the Burmese people. Education has always been a key factor in shaping productive careers and lives, and GOE focused on making this a reality for those in need.
For Burmese individuals, proficiency in English opened doors to the best opportunities in industries such as hospitality, healthcare, aviation, and both international and local companies. Beyond essential needs like food, clean water, shelter, and medical care, the ability to read, write, and speak English was a transformative game-changer for the communities GOE served in Burma.
GOE’s mission was to equip teachers and students in Myanmar with effective strategies to develop their English language skills, enabling them to teach and learn more successfully in the classroom. This program was offered entirely free to its participants. At the time, GOE had 67 students across Burma, including Mandalay, Yangon, Kachin, and Ayeyarwady, as well as students in Singapore and Thailand.
I worked on a proposal to include 55 children at the Lighthouse Refugee Camp and 75 children at Hope Children’s Home in the program. This initiative aimed to provide them with access to online English classes and instructor-led sessions twice a month.
