The Greatest Gift

“The Right to Become Children of God”

A hand-written list of names to pray for

We all love gifts—especially when they are expensive, rare, or desired by others. Gifts can make us feel special and loved. This Christmas Eve, I received a meaningful gift from my friends in Burma: a list of people affected by war to keep in my prayers.

John wrote about a precious gift God gave us more than 2,000 years ago:

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” – John 1:14

Our part is simple: to receive Him and believe in His Name. There’s no work or good deed that can earn this gift. The only thing you can do is believe and receive!

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.
— Ephesians 2:8

As I mentioned, my friends from Burma gave me a special gift last night: a list of war widows to pray for this year. These women lost their husbands in the brutal war in Burma.

Burmese War Widows

I’ve met many of them and thank God for the chance to pray for them now and serve them in 2025. Truly, this opportunity is a gift. These women live in deep poverty with little or no hope for the future. They receive only $28 a month from the Burmese government for their pain and loss.

Is prayer enough?

These are real women—some young, some older, many with children—all victims of a senseless war. Why them and not us? Prayer alone is not enough, but it is where we will begin. From there, we’ll seek wisdom about what to do and when to act.

There is much to pray about now and more to do in 2025:

  • Farming God’s Way training in Nepal and Burma (March)

  • Business opportunities through the US Embassy in Burma

  • War widows ministry in Burma

  • Lighthouse Refugee Camp in Burma

  • A large refugee camp with 300 families in Burma

  • Missions podcast recorded on-site in Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal, and more

  • English training in Burma with the Gift of Education (GOE)

  • Developing farmland in Burma for sustainable living

  • Providing farm equipment for Burmese farmers
